The Loss Control Director (“LCD”) will assist in establishing a working Safety Committee or advising an existing Safety Committee, including policies and structure. The LCD will be available to attend Safety Committee meetings for the purpose of reviewing incident reports, facility inspection reports, and developing new policies and procedures which will address the specific needs of the Safety Program.
The LCD will work closely with the employee assigned the responsibility for employee safety. Loss trends are analyzed and reported to inform senior management of where the losses are occurring. Worksite and department safety audits are conducted for the purpose of identifying risk exposures. Employee safety training will be scheduled to address these risk exposures.
Accident investigators should be appointed to investigate accidents occurring within their departments to determine the cause(s) and to recommend solutions to prevent recurrence. The LCD can assist with developing individualized accident investigation report forms. Additionally, the LCD will advise or help create an elected Accident Investigation Committee to review losses and determine culpability.
OSHA Standards are considered minimum safety guidelines. The LCD can provide written program guidelines and implementation training for OSHA standards that are relevant to private industry. Some of the programs would include Personal Protective Equipment, Hazard Communication, Workplace Violence Prevention, Lockout / Tagout, and Confined Space Entry. These programs are basic to all industrial safety programs.
The LCD can offer planned inspection forms for general workplace and departmental risk exposures, as well as, a number of specialized inspection forms specific to each area of operation. The LCD can tour facilities and report exposures.
